NEW DELHI: A group of parliamentarians is said to visit Ladakh to get first-hand insights of aspects concerning high-altitude clothing for soldiers, housing, and rationing at a time when India and China are locked in a border standoff.

Efforts have been made but it’s all vain as no headway has been made, said officials on Tuesday. Officials said on October 28-29, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) headed by Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is likely to visit Leh.

The visit of the Congress MP was finalized as he wrote a letter previous month to the Speaker of Lok Sabha OM Birla suggesting the PAC to visit the Ladakh Sector to interact with soldiers and understand their conditions and requirements. The Committee is working on a recent report by Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) which pointed to the deficiency in high altitude clothing and the necessity to equip soldiers with proper gear.

During a meeting held on 6 September PAC had discussed the clothing issue with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). Back in February in the Parliament, the National Auditor had drawn attention to the shortage of required equipment.
