Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the demise of the former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Jagmohan Malhotra and identified it as a ‘monumental loss for the nation’.

Expressing his grief over the death, PM Modi said in a tweet, “Jagmohan Ji’s demise is a monumental loss for our nation. He was an exemplary administrator and a renowned scholar. He always worked towards the betterment of India. His ministerial tenure was marked by innovative policy making. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

On Monday in Delhi, Jagmohan passed away after a brief illness at the age of 94. During his career, the former civil servant held many important posts such as Lieutenant Governorship of Delhi, Governorship of Goa and Jammu and Kashmir.

In 1996, for the first time, he was also elected to the Lok Sabha and served as the Union Minister for Urban Development and Tourism.

In 1971, Jagmohan was honoured with the Padma Shri, in 1977 with Padma Bhushan and in 2016 with Padma Vibhushan.
