Today, PM Narendra Modi congratulated all the PMFBY scheme’s beneficiaries. Mod tweeted, “An important initiative to secure hardworking farmers from the vagaries of nature, PM Fasal Bima Yojana completes 5 years today. The Yojana has increased coverage, mitigated risk & benefitted crores of farmers. I congratulate all beneficiaries of the scheme.”
On Tuesday, in order to become “self-reliant farmers”, the Centre urged the farming and agricultural community to take the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’s advantages as it has completed 5 years. The agriculture minister, Narendra Singh Tomar said in a statement that since the launch of the scheme on 13th January, 2016, so far it claims worth Rs 90,000 crore have been handed out to farmers. He further stated that worth Rs 8,741.30 crore were transferred to nearly 70 lakh farmers even during the Covid-19 lockdown period.
The ministry claimed, “The Government of India urges farmers to take advantage of the scheme by associating themselves to become self-sufficient in times of crisis and support the creation of an Aatmanirbhar Kisan.”
It also said that in protecting the interests of the farmers, the Centre is committed. As per the ministry, over 5.5 crore farmer applications were covered by the scheme year-on-year and due to the Aadhaar seeding the claim settlement goes directly into the farmer accounts speedily.
