On Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi commended the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers of the Gujarat unit for their performance during the local body polls across Gujarat and Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and called it a result of their hard work at the grassroots level.
The BJP won 41 out of 44 seats during the Gandhinagar municipal corporation (GMC) elections that were held on Sunday. Meanwhile, congress secured two seats, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won one seat. The party also secured victory in two other civic bodies in Gujarat, Okha, and Thara. Congress secured a victory in the Bhanvad municipality in Devbhumi-Dwarka district.
PM Modi posted a tweet and said that the result of the local body polls across Gujarat and Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation provide reaffirmation to the deep-rooted bond established between the people of Gujarat and the party. The prime minister conveyed his gratefulness to the people of Gujarat for repeatedly blessing the party. He also praised the party workers for their hard work at the grassroots.
The Gandhinagar municipal corporation elections witnessed a voter turnout of 56.24% out of the 2.8 lakh registered voters. Okha and Bhanvad (located in Devbhumi-Dwarka district) witnessed a voter turnout of 55.07% and 62.27% and 73.55% voter turnout was observed in Thara (Banaskantha district).
Initially, the local body polls were scheduled for April, however, they got postponed due to the second wave of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
