Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the demise of Buddhadeb Dasgupta. Appreciating the works of the late Bengali filmmaker, Modi outlined that Dasgupta’s work struck a chord with all sections of society. He reiterated that Buddhadeb was an eminent thinker and poet. “Anguished by the demise of Shri Buddhadeb Dasgupta. My thoughts are with his family and several admirers in this time of grief. Om Shanti,” he wrote.
Receiving the news of Buddhadeb’s demise, the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee also expressed her sorrow. Taking to her official Twitter handle she mentioned that his death is a ‘huge loss’ for the film fraternity. She wrote that the late Bengali filmmaker through his works infused lyricism into the language of cinema. “Condolences to his family, colleagues, and admirers,” she added.
The legendary Bengali filmmaker, Buddhadeb Dasgupta, 77, passed away this morning due to age-related complications. He was in his South Kolkata residence when he breathed his last. According to sources, he was ill and was on dialysis for a while. He died in his sleep at 8 in the morning.
