Today, at the Surat Metro Rail Project and Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II, the Bhoomi Poojan was performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing.
Before the ceremony, on Twitter, the PM called this day as a ‘landmark day’ for two leading urban centres of Gujarat. In his address, the PM said, “In the 10-12 years preceding before 2014, only 225 km of metro lines were operational. At the same time, over 450 km of metro network has been running in the last 6 years.”
Regarding Surat Metro Rail Project, he stated that Surat is the second major city in Gujarat after Ahmedabad to be connected to modern public transport systems like the metro and the metro network in Surat will in a way to connect the important merchant center of the entire city.
For PM Modi’s leadership, Home minister Amit Shah thanked him in his address at the gathering as the PM’s guidance headed to the set up of these two new metro phases.
The 28.25 kms long Ahmedabad Metro Phase-II costs Rs 5.3 crore, which includes two corridors. One is from GNLU to GIFT City and the other is from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir. The 40.35 kms long Surat metro project costs Rs 12 crore which also includes two corridors one is from Bhesan to Saroli and the other from Sarthana to Dream City.
As per the PM’s Office, the metro projects will provide an environment-friendly mass rapid transit system to the two cities in Gujarat.
The event was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat governor Acharya Devvrat, Union housing and urban affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani.
