On Thursday, the ministry of external affairs confirmed that PM Narendra Modi will participate virtually in the Outreach sessions of G7 Summit to be held on June 12 and 13. The Prime Minister accepted the invitation of UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The Summit will focus on the theme ‘Build Back Better’ while the UK has outlined four priority areas for its Presidency. The agenda of the Summit is set on measures to recover from coronavirus while strengthening resilience against future pandemics, promotion of future prosperity through free and fair trade, tackling climate change and also preserving the planet’s biodiversity including shared values and open societies.
The Presidency of G7 is currently headed by the UK who has invited India, Australia, Republic of Korea and South Africa, as Guest Countries for the G7 Summit.
PM Modi will be participating in a G7 meeting for the second time as earlier as a ‘Goodwill Partner’, India had been invited by the G7 French Presidency in 2019 to the Biarritz Summit and PM had participated in the Sessions on ‘Climate, Biodiversity and Oceans’ and ‘Digital Transformation’.
