NEW DELHI: Earlier former President Pranab Mukherjee was admitted to the Army’s Research and Referral (R&R) Hospital in New Delhi in a critical condition and underwent brain surgery. He was also tested positive for novel Coronavirus, and post-surgery, his health status is worsening and has not shown any improvement. The condition continues to remain critical and now he is on ventilator support.
The hospital stated that after a certain examination they revealed a large brain clot for which he had to undergo an emergency life-saving surgery. He previously in 2014 had undergone a major cardiac procedure. Pranab Mukherjee in his tweet announced that he contracted the virus and had requested all the people who came in close contact with him since last week to self-isolated and get tested for Covid-19. Reportedly he was quite unwell and have been moved to the hospital immediately on the advice of the doctors.
The surgery went well and his condition was stable initially while multidisciplinary team doctors were constantly monitoring his health, hospital authorities stated. President Ram Nath Kovind recently spoke to Mukherjee’s daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee and inquired about his health. In his tweet, he wished him a speedy recovery and good health. Even Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister visited him in the hospital. Rahul Gandhi has taken his twitter handle and wrote, “Wishing former President Shri Pranab Mukherjee a speedy recovery.”
