Today, Congress General-Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been finally allowed to visit Agra to meet the family of a sanitation worker who died in police custody. Earlier today, the Congress leader was detained by the Uttar Pradesh police while she was on her way to Agra. Talking to the media, Priyanka informed that four people have been granted permission to visit Agra. “We are going there to meet the family,” she added.

Sources claimed that earlier today, Priyanka was stopped at the Lucknow-Agra expressway citing that the Agra district magistrate had requested not to allow any political personality to go there. Responding to the act, Priyanka claimed that whenever she tried to visit a place other than the party office, the administration tried to stop her.

“They say I can not go to Agra. They stop me wherever I go. Should I keep sitting in restaurants? Just because it is politically convenient for them? I want to meet them, what is the big deal,” she said.

The incident took place a day after a sanitation worker, Arun Valmiki was arrested in connection with a theft of Rs 25 lakhs from a warehouse on October 17. Reportedly, the worker died in police custody due to deteriorating health conditions during interrogation. The family of Valmiki has filed a complaint that the victim was beaten up by the Police following which he died.

Meanwhile, SSP Agra, Muniraj G informed that Valmiki had confessed to the crime, and the police recovered Rs. 15 lakhs from his home.
