• CPS Suresh Kumar, and PS Captain Sandeep Sandhu, have resigned from their post
• Earlier today, Amarinder Singh resigned from the post of the Chief Minister of Punjab
• A senior government official stated that Suresh Kumar can continue to serve his post as the CPS until a new chief minister is appointed
A series of resignations came soon after Punjab CM Amarinder Singh quits his position. Suresh Kumar, Chief Principal Secretary, and Political Secretary Captain Sandeep Sandhu have also resigned from their post following the resignation of Amarinder Singh as the chief minister of Punjab earlier today.
Suresh Kumar is a retired IAS officer from the batch of 1983, and he was believed to be Amarinder Singh’s final word on official matters. He was appointed as a chief principal secretary of Amarinder Singh despite opposition. Sandeep Sandu used to look after political affairs and was the bridge between the government and the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
A senior government official stated that the appointment of Suresh Kumar as the chief principal secretary is co-terminus with Amarinder holding the post of the Chief Minister, so he can continue to serve his post as the chief principal secretary until a new chief minister is appointed.
Earlier today, Amarinder Singh resigned from the post of the Chief Minister of Punjab, saying that he felt humiliated amid an ongoing political tussle with Navjot Singh Sidhu. The resignation comes five months ahead of the assembly elections in Punjab, and one hour before a crucial meeting of the Congress Legislature Party. Media adviser of Amarinder Singh stated that he handed in his resignation along with the resignation of his council of ministers.
