The 5th India- Singapore Defense Ministers’ Dialogue was organized on January 20, 2021, via video conferencing. The meeting was co-chaired by Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh along with Dr. Ng Eng Hen. The ministers shared their satisfactory views on the development of defense cooperation between the countries in the presence of coronavirus pandemic.
Rajnath Singh extended his comment on the effort of the Singapore Govt, given to implement a measure of the pandemic and the contribution of the Armed Force in the repatriation missions. The ministers expressed their views to further strengthen the cooperation engagements. The new areas where the extra focus should be laid were brought forward, and potential action was discussed.
The conference witnessed the signing of Implementing Agreement on Submarine Rescue Support and Cooperation between the Indian and the Republic of Singapore Navy. The Defense Ministers extended their complete support in concluding the agreement early and facilitate the conduct of live firings and establish reciprocal arrangements for supporting cross-attendance of military courses.
Implementation of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief on August 2020, was given a detailed look so that the armed forces could enjoy closer operational collaboration. The cyber agencies involved in the armed forces also surged their engagements. The commitment between the senior officials for sustaining the momentum of annual dialogues even during the pandemic was noted by the Defense Ministers, they further noted that the actions helped in keeping the trajectory of the foundation on the positive side.
The Singapore- India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) conducted its 27th edition and Singapore- India– Thailand Maritime Exercise (SITMEX) practiced its 2nd edition in November 2020, these two events held high importance in the foundation of the two countries. The Defense Minister further ensured the extension of support to every endeavor of the ASEAN Defense Ministers` Meeting, and Dr. Ng extended his support in India`s participation as co-chairman in ADMM-Plus Expert`s Working Group on HADR.
