Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan Johar’s romantic cult film starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukherji has completed 23 years since its first release. The film has throughout the decades been popular among the masses but also has been known for some wrong reasons.

The new generation of viewers has criticized the film’s depiction of womanhood and the lead character’s sexism wherein he chooses the girl who by conventional standards is apparently more desirable. Rani Mukherjee who played the glamorous girl Tina has defended her character. She said that she would always defend Rahul(lead character) for following his heart.

“Falling in love is something very subjective to each person and we can’t judge a person for their choices because, at the end of the day, it’s your heart. You can’t direct your heart to do things that a particular person would feel are morally right or morally wrong. What might come across right to you might be wrong for the other person. I think considering all the flaws that we all are living with, we should not sit and judge others for what they are doing,” Rani said.

Rani said that Tina was more than just her pretty face. She was hard to get, which resulted in Rahul chasing her down. She stated that some of her characteristics reflect that she had a lot of depth and understanding, and that is how she realized the love between Rahul and Anjali, convincing her eight-year-old daughter to reunite them.

Rani’s last project was Bunty Aur Babli 2 with Saif Ali Khan, Sharwari Wagh, and Siddharth Chaturvedi. It was the sequel to the hit crime comedy Bunty Aur Babli in 2005, in which Rani starred along with Abhishek Bachchan.
