Today, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has carried out raids at six places in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in a recent case of alleged conversion of some deaf students and poor people to Islam in UP with purported funding from abroad. Talking to the media, the officials have confirmed the news.
During the raid, the central probe agency has seized several incriminating documents. These documents have reportedly revealed the large-scale religious conversion carried out by the chief accused, Mohammad Umar Gautam, and his organizations all over India. “According to the documents, the alleged group has received crore of foreign funds for these illegal conversions,” the officials added.
Previously, the federal agency had filed a criminal case under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to probe this case unearthed by the Uttar Pradesh Police Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS). The ATS had arrested two men namely Umar Gautam and Mufti Qazi Jahangir Alam Qasmi, resident of Jamia Nagar in Delhi. Gautam had been accused of allegedly running the Islamic Dawah Centre (IDC) outfit, whereas Qazi was his associate.
After the arrest, the police had mentioned that the alleged group received funds from Pakistan’s inter-services intelligence (ISI) and other foreign agencies to carry out religious conversions. Sources revealed that the locations searched by ED officials on Saturday include the office of the IDC, and as well as the residences of Mohammad Umar Gautam and Mufti Qazi Jahangir Qasmi.
Meanwhile, in UP, the officials raided the offices of the Al Hassan Education and Welfare Foundation and the Guidance Education and Welfare Society, both located at Lucknow. These organizations were run by Umar Gautam and have been playing a key role in carrying out these alleged illegal conversions.
