Today, Russia’s communications regulator alleges that Twitter is violating Russian law. The regulator claims that the social media platform did not obey some of its regulations regard deleting some banned content on their platform.  The Russian federal executive body said that the social media platform had failed to delete nearly 2862 posts that are related to suicide, pornography, and drugs since 2017.

It further noted that under Russian law a suit could be filed against the company if found guilty of repeatedly failing to delete content and also could be fined heavily.

It added that the platform is used extensively by Navalny’s allies to announce new protests and to criticize the authorities. Earlier Twitter was fined in the past for breaching Russia’s data laws. In recent months, Russia has taken strict steps to exert more influence over foreign social media platforms if they “discriminate” against Russian media.
