On Thursday, member of NITI Aayog, Dr VK Paul announced that Russia’s Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine will be available in Indian market from July.
He announced this at the press briefing of the health ministry on the Covid-19 situation in the country. Dr VK Paul informed that the local production of the Sputnik V vaccine will begin in July as Dr Reddy’s Laboratories at Hyderabad has agreed to manufacture the vaccine in India.
During April, Sputnik V was given emergency use authorisation (EUA) due to the surge in the fresh Covid-19 infections. This is the third vaccine shot that will be administered in India.
India is presently inoculating two other shots of vaccine, Covishield manufactured in Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) and Covaxin developed in Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Limited.
Third phase of India’s vaccination drive is underway as people above the age of 18 are eligible for a jab that started on May 1.
