On Sunday, police affirmed that they have ascertained the killers of probationary sub-inspector Arshid Ahmad at Khanyar, Srinagar following a few hours after the officer was gunned down by suspected militants. Ahmad was hurried to SKIMS in Soura, but he surrendered to his injuries.
Director general of police Dilbag Singh informed that the perpetrators of the crime have been identified and they will be brought to justice. However, the official did not disclose the identity of the assailants or the group behind the attack.
According to reports, police have constituted a team to investigate the killing of Ahmad who was laid to rest at Kalmona village in Kupwara district on Sunday night. Ahmad was posted at Khanyar police station.
A video that went viral on social media platforms showed CCTV footage displaying an attacker carrying a small weapon and firing at Ahmad from a close range. Ahmad was shot when he was returning from a hospital where has taken an accused for a check-up.
In these past months, Srinagar in Kashmir has witnessed several attacks on policemen. To note, on August 3, a cop and a civilian were injured soon after the militants opened fire on police’s Rakshak vehicle parked at Sheraz Chowk.
On August 7, another police personnel was gunned down in a militant attack in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. In addition, on June 22, inspector Pervaiz Ahmad employed at the Criminal Investigation Department wing of police was shot dead as the militants opened fire on him at Nowgam.
