Taiwan’s Defence Ministry on Monday reported that eight fighter jets of which four are J-10 fighters and the rest are Chinese J-16 along with an anti-submarine aircraft and an early warning plane flew across the air- defence identification zone of the island.
Chinese Airforce has repeatedly led missions near the areas of the South-western part of Taiwan’s air defence zone, which includes Taiwan-controlled Pratas Islands. In one of the previous incursions, 20 Chinese aircraft were involved.
In the recent incident, a warning plane, an anti-submarine aircraft and eight fighter jets were part of the operation. The anti-submarine flew through the Bashi Channel, which connects the Pacific to the South China Sea.
The incident has caused sudden pressure on Taiwan’s Air force to ensure that the defence is prepared for action in case of a ”war of attrition”.
