Under the Taliban’s rule, the Ministry of Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has made a re-entry to the war-torn country. It was previously abolished, after the US invasion. The Ministry has been famous for enforcing the Taliban’s cruel Sharia law which included multiple restrictions on women like their imposing ban on their going out alone along with the prohibition of entertainment.

Talking to the media, a Taliban official put forth their main responsibility is to serve ‘Islam’. He said for this purpose, the ministry is needed to grant proper punishment for the crimes. Mohammad Yusuf who heads the central zone of Afghanistan, also mentioned that the Taliban regime will punish the violators as per the Islamic rules.

Elaborating, Yusuf outlined that a person who committed a murderer intentionally will be killed as punishment and if not, then there will be other punishments like paying a certain amount of money. Previously, moral police were present in the streets of Afghanistan, and violators were flogged, stoned, amputated, and even publicly executed. “All thieves if caught will have their hands chopped off, and those found in illegal intercourse will be stoned,” he added.

Furthermore, Yusuf mentioned that the Taliban demands a ‘peaceful country’, with Islamic rules and regulations.
