On Wednesday, the government informed Rajya Sabha about the dip in the number of terror-related incidents in the Valley, after the abrogation of Article 370. The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai informed that the number of terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir reduced from 843 cases to 496 within August 5, 2019, to November 22, 2021.
Addressing the Parliament, Rai compared statistics that showed there has been a decline in terrorist attacks on civilians and the army in Jammu and Kashmir. In addition, between 16, 2017 and August 04, 2019, 86 civilians and 78 army personnel were killed in terror-related incidents. During the last 12 months from December 2020 to November 2021, the Minister mentioned that 14 terrorists have been apprehended and 165 terrorists have been killed.
A total of 251 terrorist incidents have been reported between October 2020 and October 2021. In 2018, 417 terrorist incidents were reported in Jammu and Kashmir which had decreased to 255 in 2019, 244 in 2020, and 200 up to November 21, 2021, as per the reports on the data presented by the minister.
Furthermore, the Minister highlighted the steps undertaken by the government to protect civilians from anti-terror operations. Several steps such as proactive operations against terrorists, identification, and arrest of overground workers, action against members of banned organizations, and other actions have been undertaken by the government.
