Today, Pakistan Information Minister alleged that the threat which forced New Zealand’s cricket team to cancel its tour of Pakistan came in an email. The Minister added that the email originated in India.
Earlier today, the team had arrived home after canceling their tour of Pakistan last week. When asked, the team cited security reasons for calling off their tour. New Zealand’s Cricket team disclosed that they were aware of a specific and credible threat. However, no exact details were mentioned.
Commenting on the issue, Pakistan Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry cited that the threat came in an email. “The email was generated from India through a VPN showing the location of Singapore,” Chaudhry said. Chaudhry added that the West Indies team, due to arrive in December, had also been sent a threat that he said was fake.
Meanwhile, there has been no immediate remark from the Indian Foreign Ministry. New Zealand’s withdrawal dealt a massive blow to Pakistan’s hopes of staging regular international cricket, with England subsequently calling off their men’s and women’s tours.
