Kailash Vijayvargiya, the national general secretary of the BJP party on Sunday credited Mamata Banerjee for TMC’s straight sweep through the West Bengal assembly elections and said that his party would introspect the poll results.
“The TMC won because of Mamata Banerjee. It seems people have chosen Didi. We will introspect what went wrong, whether it was organizational issues, lack of face, insider-outsider debate. We will see what went wrong,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Vijayvariga claimed that initial trends were not the real indicators of the final outcome and showed confidence in BJP winning the elections.
Vijayvargiya, who is also the BJP’s Bengal minder also further said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had called him earlier in the day to enquire about BJP’s poor performance in the state elections.
The senior BJP leader stated that he was shocked to see BJP MPs Babul Supriyo contesting from the Tollygaunj constituency and Locket Chatterjee from Hooghly constituency trailing.
The ruling TMC looks all set to retain power in West Bengal after the remarkable victory with its candidates leading in 208 seats of the state’s 292 constituencies, while BJP is ahead in 78 according to the recent trends.
Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool has extended its lead in 208 Assembly seats, while the BJP is ahead in 78. The West Bengal Election Result will be declared by today by the Election Commission of India.
