David Amess, the British lawmaker was stabbed 17 times while talking with voters at a church in the small town of Leigh-on-Sea east of London. The 69-year-old Conservative leader was announced dead.
According to sources, the attacker has been identified as a 25-year-old British national of Somali origin. The attacker was sitting calmly and waited for the cops to arrive. Talking to the media, Councillor Daniel Nelson informed that they are completely sure the attacker had stabbed Amess. “It was completely premeditated. He knew he was going to do it,” Nelson added.
The case is being investigated as a ‘terrorist incident’, and the MPs are emphasizing tougher security. “The investigation is in the very early stage,” an officer said.
Meanwhile, Britain’s politicians were stunned by the highly public attack. Home Secretary Priti Patel on Friday ordered police across the country to review security arrangements for all 650 MPs.
