On Thursday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised US President Joe Biden’s determination to work with his allies on important global issues from climate change and COVID-19 to security. He hailed him as “a big breath of fresh air.”
Johnson did not bring out any precise parallel between Biden and Donald Trump after meeting him in the English seaside resort of Carbis Bay on the eve of a summit of the Group of Seven (G7) advanced economies. Johnson said, “It was a long, long, good session. We covered a huge range of subjects”.
The two leaders did not attend a joint press address after the meeting. On the one hand, Johnson spoke to British media while Biden spoke about a US plan to distribute half a billion vaccines to poorer countries.
Johnson’s Downing Street office stated that he and Biden have agreed that Britain and the EU “had a responsibility to work together and find pragmatic solutions to allow unencumbered trade” between Northern Ireland, Britain, and Ireland.”
