On Friday, as the nation celebrated Constitution Day, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal criticized the Opposition parties including Congress, for boycotting the event at the Parliament. Reportedly, Congress, along with 13 other parties including the Shiv Sena, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), and the Rashtriya Janata Dal did not attend the event.

Back on Thursday, the Opposition parties said that it will skip the event as the Centre disrespected them in terms of refusal to their demands and hurried passage of bills in Parliament. Commenting on their decision, Meghwal called it ‘disrespect towards the country’s constitution’.

Slamming the Congress, Arjun said that the Congress can only respect leaders from the Nehru family and no other political leader including Dr. Ambedkar, who wrote the constitution. The event was attended by President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other leaders. PM Modi in his speech slammed the Congress Party, and called it a ‘threat to democracy’.
