In the US, the deaths from Covid-19 marks 500,000. Mourning over the matter, President Joe Biden has addressed the country and called it a ‘heartbreaking milestone’, as it is the highest toll of any nation in the world. He stated, “As a nation, we can’t accept such a cruel fate. We have to resist becoming numb to the sorrow.”
Then, outside the White House, the president and vice-president with their spouses observed a moment of silence during a candle-lighting ceremony. On the other hand, as another global record, more than 28.1 million Americans have been infected with the coronavirus.
Calling the Americans to fight against the deadly virus together, Biden said, “Today I ask all Americans to remember. Remember those, we lost and remember those, we left behind.”
Towards the pandemic, the approach of Biden is much different than his predecessor Donald Trump. Over the impact of the virus, he cast doubt and was seen as having politicized the masks wearing and other measures to prevent the infection and spread of Covid-19.
