NEW DELHI: After the 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue, a press conference was held in New Delhi where US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, the US Secretary of Defence, Mark Esper, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and EAM Dr S. Jaishankar were present.
At the press conference, Mike Pompeo said that the USA’s support is there with India and steps will be taken to strengthen the cooperation against all manner of threats and not just those threats that are posed by the Chinese Communist Party.
Mike Pompeo said, “The US will stand with India as they confront threats to their sovereignty and liberty.” He mentioned their visit to National War Memorial to honour the brave Indian armed forces who were martyred for the nation, including 20 killed in Galwan Valley.
Moreover, Pompeo announced that the US values India as a multi-lateral partner and will continue to support India’s permanent membership of UNSC. He also praised India’s efforts in making Afghan peace negotiation successful and hopes to work together during India’s coming term on the UN Security Council.
Talking about last year’s discussion, Pompeo recalled the co-operation that has been given to India on handling cyber issues and others. Also, Pompeo mentioned about the navies of both the USA and India that held a joint exercise in the Indian Ocean.
