West Bengal: On Friday, October 17, the West Bengal Police notified that the department has seized a total quantity of 112 kg ‘ganja’ (marijuana) in the Jalpaiguri district. Along with that, five people involved in dealing with illegal substances have been arrested.
Out of the 112kg, 106kg had been seized from the Bhaktinagar block in Siliguri, while the remaining 6kg had been recovered from the New Jalpaiguri area, on Friday night.
Apparently, the police officers had been alerted on the presence of ganja in a goods vehicle, acting upon which, they recovered nearly 106 kg of the mentioned drugs on Siliguri Eastern Metropolitan Bypass.
The police have currently refused to reveal the origin or destination of the vehicle carrying ganja, however, they mentioned that there were three men present in it, out of whom two originated from the Cooch Behar district, while one belonged to Siliguri.
Later, on the same night, the police seized six kg of the same drug from two individuals in the Phulbari locality. The officers further asserted that the two alleged were transmitting the narcotics substance from Assam to Bihar.
