Today, the Supreme Court has raised the question of reopening the schools to the Delhi Government led by Arvind Kejriwal despite higher levels of air pollution in the state. The Apex Court asked the AAP govt, “when adults are working from home then why the children are going to schools?” The court has also recalled Delhi Govt’s assurance of keeping the schools closed until further orders are released.

Apparently, as the government has enforced work-from-home for adults, then the children should not be forced to get on to school as pointed by the apex court. It further said, “We are serious about industrial and vehicular pollution. You cannot fire bullets from our shoulders, you have to take steps. Why are schools open?”

“We feel nothing is happening despite air pollution levels rising,” identified the Supreme Court. A rare bench of the supreme court including CJI NV Ramana and Justice DY Chandrachud and Suryakant had inquired the Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and UP governments to clarify the steps they have taken in observation with orientations by the commission for Air quality management in Delhi NCR to improve the quality of the air.

The court had set December 2 as the date for hearing on the matter but questioned the governments to file observation of affidavits by December 1. On Thursday, according to the system of air quality and weather forecasting and research, the overall AQI of Delhi was reported 312 i.e., very low.
