The Central government told the Supreme Court today that women will be admitted into the National Defence Academy for permanent commission into India’s armed forces. It also said that some time is needed to frame the guidelines in order to pave the way for women to be admitted into NDA courses. The apex court has ordered to file the Centre’s reply by September 20.
The Supreme Court today said that it is extremely glad to know the decision of inducting women into the NDA. It has also been said that the government would place timelines of the process and the course of action. The apex court made the remark while hearing the petition.
A bench of Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice M.M. Sundresh said that armed forces play an important role and maintaining more gender equality is needed. They want the government to take a more proactive approach rather than waiting for the court to intervene. The Centre filed the petition one month ago and the hearing has been rescheduled for November 14.
