On Saturday, World Bank President David Malpass met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Washington. David congratulated India on its successful COVID-19 vaccination program.
In a statement released by World Bank, it mentioned that President Malpass congratulated Minister Sitharaman on India’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign. “Malpass thanked Minister Sitharaman for India’s international role in vaccine production and distribution,” the statement read.
Last month, Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister had informed that India will resume the supply of COVID-19 vaccines abroad. Last April, India had suspended the exports of COVID-19 vaccines to focus on inoculating its own population following a sudden spike in infections. He announced on Saturday that India will cross the landmark of 1 billion Covid-19 vaccine doses next week.
Furthermore, Malpass reaffirmed the World Bank’s strong commitment to India across all group entities, including the International Finance Corporation and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency.
